About All Creatures Big & Small
All Creatures Big and Small is a non-profit, volunteer dog/cat rescue organization serving Central NY and beyond. We are dedicated to rescuing adoptable pets left homeless for whatever reason – animals in public shelters, both near and far, where they are at high risk of euthanasia due to pet overpopulation, pets given up by their owners because of difficult circumstances, and those in danger of abuse or neglect. We are unable to accept animals with aggression issues into our program due to the nature of our foster homes.
We place adoptable animals in loving, responsible, committed permanent homes, following a comprehensive adoption process which includes taking considerable care in finding good matches and educating prospective adopters about the responsibilities and costs of bringing a new pet into their homes and lives.
Animals in our care are spayed or neutered, receive all appropriate veterinary care and treatment, and are placed in nurturing foster homes while they await placement in their permanent homes. We assist pets in distress without regard to age, breed or ease of placement. To the extent our finances allow, pets in the greatest need take priority.
We are determined to keep administrative expenses extremely low so that virtually every dollar taken in goes directly to the care of the animals. Our group remains interested in and committed to the welfare of the pet beyond the adoption process.
Finally, we strive to work with shelters and other rescues, both in our area and beyond, to develop a network of supporters and volunteers in order to create a better world for homeless pets.

Pets that are  taken into our rescue reside in foster homes for two weeks before available for adoption. All pets are in volunteer foster homes in Jefferson, Oswego, and Onondaga counties. If interested in adoption, the first step is filling out an adoption application. Within 48 hours of its receipt, we do a veterinary reference check to ensure all pets are current with vaccinations, but also in yearly for an exam and spay/neutered. After the reference check, we contact potential adopters if all goes well. A phone interview is then performed to see if the pet seems like a good match. If so and an application is approved, meet and greet are normally scheduled within a few days, and a home visit may be performed to see if the pet fits in with other pets I the household. ALL members of the family must be at the meet and greet including family dogs to be sure they are accepting of a new family member. If it seems like a good fit, the pet can be adopted that day. The process normally takes 3-7 days depending on the volunteer and foster schedule. We know the high return rate of gift pets and impulse adoptions, so we are thorough in our process:) Adoptions are limited to a 500-mile radius of Lacona NY. Pets will not be shipped to new homes since we must meet potential adopters in person. Homes with intact pets will not be prevented from adoption but instead be judged on a case by case basis as long as other prerequisites are met since all of our pets are altered before adoption.

Support Responsible Rescues!
Spay the Momma Program
Our rescue believes in pediatric spay/neuter.  Nearly all residents are spayed or neutered PRIOR to adoption.  This helps us do our part decreasing overpopulation and saves the adopter money in the long run.
Please suport rescues that are certified non-profit who also provide  medical care and follows the guidelines of the law.   Vaccinations, spay/neuter, rehoming fee and applications are all signs of a reputable rescue.
In order to do our part in reducing the pet overpopulation problem in our area, when we take in litters of unwanted puppies or kittens, we offer assistance to spay the Momma.  This prevents additional litters entering the community.
